That day I was researching about this word ‘Melatonin’ AND like the full blogosphere was flooded about it’s uses and so on..

Melatonin For Sleep:

It helps to control your sleep & wake cycles. It is also found in meat, grains, etc. Normally, melatonin levels are high in the late night and then stops in the early morning hours.

Now where did it came from?

My aunt is 65 years old & was having a hard time in sleeping because of the vivid dreams of her recently passed husband. As with declining age, her melatonin levels was also reduced—it resulted in more of stress, weight gain, etc. Her habit of keeping too many lights on at bedtime, Intake of over spicy food, caffeine and sugar was also one of the major reason responsible.

She tried all the home remedies to cure it—But a proper & sound sleep was like a dream for her!!!

Lastly, on trial basis—She was asked to take these ‘Zenith Nutrition Melatonin Dietary Capsules’ by the doctor. Many precautions were taken as her other medicines were also going on.

(As it suited her.. Even my sister—Who was working at a call centre in night shift was having irregular sleep pattern also, took it for a month)

My Experience with Melatonin Pills

Cons:

  • Severe headaches & Upset stomach were the Side effects.
  • She use to feel sleepy for a few days anytime a pill was taken.
  • 3mg tablets were a bit heavy for her digest.. So proper diet chart was given by the doctor along with it. (different dosage required for different age group)

Pros:

  • Helped her in treating Seasonal Effective Disorder (SAD).
  • These melatonin tablets also helped her in maintaining the regularity of menstruation .
  • She use to have night shifts at call centre—it thus helped to control sleep patterns.
  • Helped in reducing chronic headaches in long term.
  • It also improved her alertness during the night shifts.
  • Healthy melatonin level also helped her in fetal & fertility development.
  • Also helped in dealing with depression to an extent—got the blues? Get more sleep!!

My final Verdict:

Helped us in preventing and reducing problems with sleeping to an extent. Popping a pill alone is not going to work. My aunt has to leave it after sometime because later it caused brain fog, dizziness, etc. Also, choose food with more of melatonin production for good results.

Consult a doctor before taking.
