What’s wrong to have Parabens And Sulfates in your Hair Products?

 parabens and sulfates

We’re constantly hearing about SLS free products, sulfate free shampoos on the advertisements but do we actually know what’s wrong with them or why everyone is after them. Different advertisements try to draw our attentions by being marketed as “sulfate-free” and “paraben-free,” Like in the recent product advertisement of Delicca Powder Face Wash, this product was claiming to be SLS free. While seeing advertisement, I wondered what is so special about it and just After that I started doing my research on the same. And very next day I switched my hair care products to SLS free product (Which I will review soon) and offered my all the 4 shampoos shown in picture to some needy person.

So before you give into the hype, it’s best to be aware to know which ingredients to look for and which to stay away from in your bathing products.

What is Sulfate and Paraben?

Parabens are used to prevent bacteria growth since the 1950s. “About 85 percent of cosmetics have them,” says Arthur Rich, Ph.D., a cosmetic chemist in Chestnut Ridge, New York. “They’re inexpensive and effective.” and also act as a preservative in products like deodorants, lotions and more. Sulfates are effective cleansing agents that can be found in toothpaste, shampoo, and body washes.

Don’t take Chance

Some Studies have shown that some parabens can create a mimic in the activity of the hormone estrogen in the human body’s cells but that is not exactly proven. But yes, today in this modern era, when we don’t give too much attention towards healthy routine or fresh food but instead we as just running in the same race as others are. We start using the same brand or same product if our friend or relative is using or we read somewhere about it. We don’t do in-depth research if that product is good to use or not.  If you like daring about using different products that contain these chemicals, then stop! Only a few minutes of research in a mall or super store can lead you to get paraben- and sulfate free products.

Sulfates are harmful for hair & easily identified

Sulfates can cause lots of problems including drying, irritating scalp, and worst case is, even the hair loss. Do yo ever wonder what causes lather & foam in your shampoo? Sulfate is responsible for it. So always understand if your shampoo lathers, it contains sulfates. To clarify your concern, you can always see  the product’s ingredient list “sulfate” is listed pretty high up or mostly grab the second place after water on the ingredients label.

Parabens are sometimes complex to identified

As the most common parabens are listed in ingredients as — butylparaben, methylparaben, and propylparaben — but don’t get tricked by the product because they can also be listed as Alkyl parahydroxy benzoates.  If you still wanna make sure that you don’t grab parabens contained product, opt for ethylhexylglycerin which is plant-derived or phenoxyethanol, another alternative to parabens.

Overall,  I would say that chemicals are chemicals so it’s always a great idea to shuffle your beauty routine and rotate between different products!
