Lasers Versus Sound Waves for Skin Tightening

Lasers Versus Sound Waves for Skin Tightening

If you have been looking into how to treat unsightly sagging skin, you already know that you have a lot of options. Two of the most popular options are to have your skin tightening with laser devices or to have it treated with some sort of sound wave therapy. Obviously, you can’t choose between the two unless you know what to expect from both. So, here’s how they stack up against each other.

How Sound Waves Treat Skin Sags

In order to understand why sound waves work as a skin treatment, you first have to understand why your skin is sagging in the first place. Your body naturally produces substances called elastin and collagen. They work together to keep each skin cell healthy and connected to other skin cells properly. But, as you get older, your body will naturally produce less and less of those substances on its own.

Sound wave treatments help with sagging skin because they can basically trick your body into producing more of those healthy substances. The sound waves will stir up the cells a bit and cause them to basically defend and rebuild themselves.

Of course, some sound waves are stronger than others. Generally, radio frequency treatments are better for treating skin issues that are near the surface. On the other hand, ultrasound waves can penetrate deeper down into your skin. That makes them good for treating any number of issues, from wrinkles and sags to cellulite deposits.

How Laser Machines Treat Skin Sags

Laser devices also treat loose skin, but they do so in varying ways. For example, there are aesthetic lasers that use intense pulsed light therapy, or IPL. They generally produce mild hear and light treatments that are best suited to minor skin wrinkles.

For deeper wrinkles and skin that is extra loose, stronger machines like YAG lasers may be required. While safe for most people, stronger laser devices aren’t good for people with certain skin conditions. Also, some very specific machines don’t treat darker skin tones well. So, some research will be required to create your own customized laser treatment plan.

All of These Treatments Have Limited Side Effects

Whether you choose laser or sound therapy, the side effects should be practically non-existent. Even during the sessions, especially the sound wave sessions, you should hardly feel any pain at all. The most you might experience when you’re done with any given procedure is a little temporary swelling or redness. Though some people can experience blisters after laser treatment. However, that’s usually when they choose one that isn’t right for their skin type.

Don’t Get Discouraged By Ongoing Sessions

Now that you understand the basic differences between sound wave and laser skin tightening therapies, you can start to talk to a clinic about which option suits you. Note that the clinic might also suggest completely different options. But either way you need to have the resolve to continue whatever treatment you pick well into the future. Otherwise that sagging and wrinkly skin that you hate could return.
