What Makeup to Use & What to avoid If You Have Acne Scars

If you’re continuously involved in picking at your pimples or you are having hard times with your cystic bumps since your teenage years, there are the chances you’ve been bane by few acne scars. The dark marks and dig-like scars takes weeks, months to see themselves out.

For most of us, Whether we’re using the drugstore products or high-end brands; makeup is the easiest method to hide these facial imperfections, but wrong techniques and unappropriated products can attract different eyes rather than detracting their appearance.

So here I have tapped few best tips for dealing with acne-scarring & Trust me! You get the pro looking results and I am sure you’ll come back and thank me for this.

  • Prime Time

Before you start planning putting step by step makeup, starting from foundation. Just stop, you might be forgetting to prime your face in first place. Preparing your face with a primer will smooth over any problem areas. These primers are incredibly gentle and seems to fill in the flaws while giving a seamless look to the whole face. I personally recommend primers for scarring — I swear by Smashbox’s whole line.

  • Ditch The Glow

Cosmetics which holds a lot of radiance, gloss, or a high shimmer contribute to bring out the real texture and really showcase the difference between the clear and scary skin. Tip: Avoid anything and everything which is glowy & shiny. Sadly, highlighters too!

On the other side, matte products are the best saviour because of their ability to suck up the light and smooth out the appearance of the high textured areas. If you have oily, pigmented acne scars and looking for a high-coverage, super-matte, Kat Von D’s Lock-It Foundation might be your holy grail.

  • Stipple, Don’t strike

Well, this one is killer! Avoid “wispy” or buffing strokes, as they can cause the flaky skin to become more noticeable and leave your skin looking uneven. For your ease, get this secret tool to flawless makeup .

I have personally mastered this trick, every time I’m working on my acne scars, I usually find myself focusing on stippling motions to really match the product with my skin and cover all the deeper acne scarring. After that I take the larger end of Brush to perfectly blend the product into place with a soft motion. To finish it all up, I use whatever is left on my complexion powder brush to give a light tint to the rest of my face.

  • Dusk it down

Just like your matte foundation, you should always opt for an absolute matte and highly pigmented concealer. I would recommend to go for Make Up For Ever’s cult Full Cover Camouflage Cream. It gives a super-opaque and matte texture to the skin, possibly fill in the deep parts of the scarring. To apply it for good, put dots onto specific areas and press the product with the help of flat brush or beauty blender into the skin seamlessly.

  • Airbrush  – A makeup Savior

After all those makeup efforts, what if I tell you that Airbrush is for a seamless, foolproof application over scarring? Yes Girls, you heard it right! I swear by an airbrush makeup using Temptu airbrush, because it lies on the skin and still looks super-natural.
