Street fashion has always been about defying find out trends. It reflects the urban youth culture and accepts all those who possess the spirit. It’s for men and women who aren’t afraid to shatter the high fashion expectations, yet stay in the loop and feel like a million bucks walking down the street. Those who disregard gender stereotypes and dive in head first to wear what stands out. Those who dare to stand out among the rest.
About spring 2019
Very questionable weather during fashion month, and nothing questionable about the trends that were about to be set. Editors and photographers who diligently waited in the cold and rain to take a gander at the influencers, models, and celebrities, have brought back more than a fair share of surprises. And while the best indicator for the 2019 street trends is till the spring fashion show next year, the outfits we’ve seen for the fall/winter show already give us a glimpse of what awaits. And if you are as eager as we were to find out, stay tuned because boy, do we have a list to go through!
Coats and jackets
It seems that in all four cities, whenever there was some colder weather, large coats would adorn many shoulders. Of drab colors and simple geometric prints, these often stiff, oversized details complimented the colorful dresses or smart suits underneath. No matter the rest of the outfit
Shoes
Now the shoes are a story of duality – many women boasted boots or high heels that were loud and proud – either in length or color. Bright red dominated with high heels, while dark-colored cowboy boots seem to be making a comeback. They’ve taken a while but we might just see them on the streets next spring. Neon-detailed, bold sneakers have also snuck into the fashion shows, as well as dark-toned platforms.
Neon
Those of you who clung to those few pieces of neonclothing in your closet, not quite sure whether to throw them out or not – wait for next year! From what we’ve seen, neon is also making a big entrance again. Namely lime green and neon orange. Seen mostly in details like bags and shoes, they expertly stood out from the rest of the outfit, while still complimenting the overall style.
Prints
Animal prints are being welcomed into 2019. It’s speculated that the cheetah print will dominate the streets. However, the classic zebra print and snake skin will hardly be dethroned, and they’re expected to be seen just as much.
Skirts
Like with shoes, skirts this fall have seen a kind of duality, mostly when it comes to length. So those of you who prefer both miniskirts and mid-to-long length will have the most choices. The patterns themselves were varied when it came to miniskirts, as the design of the skirt itself was more important. And with longer skirts, the most commonly seen were maxi and midi skirts with a vintage flair, both in fabric and color.
Dresses
The most dresses we’ve seen this year were down-to-earth, romantic dresses. Normally (and unexpectedly) paired up with flats or pumps. Alongside them, the predecessor to boho, that “Summer of Love” vibe from the 60s also made a comeback with fun prints on light dresses. Caftans are also making a big entrance, and we’ve usually seen them among the more athletic attendees, paired with boho boots or sandals.
Pants
If one thing was clear this year, it’s that wide,business pants are being welcomed back. And when you have numerous fashion showsin a month, back to back, what else are you expected to wear in between? However, despite us thinking the outfit could give off a strictly
Accessories
When it comes to accessorizing, this spring just might see more of the big, bold and beautiful, alongside small, spiteful and sassy. The smaller handbags we’ve seen boast strong, bold design, with studs, faux leather, and even neon colors, while bigger bags were a tie between totes with designer prints and hobo bags. Oversized sunglasses, on the other hand, look like they’re here to stay for another season.
Hairstyles
We were pleasantly surprised to see that the fashion week on all four locations was dominated by all natural hairstyles. Whether the attendees wore their hair down or were minimally “dolled up”, they melded into the styling perfectly. Bob cuts seemed to be very popular, especially in daring colors, as well as natural hair oils in slicked back long hair, or wild, luscious curls. Everywhere we looked, the trend seemed to be acceptance of natural textures and hairlines, in opposition to the overly luxurious high fashion trends.
“Bare minimum”
We were in shock and awe over the newest 2019 style trend – transparent blouses and semi-transparent dresses and skirts. It seems as though street style for next year sheds all pretense and aims to show the bare truth (alright, we’ll stop with the bad jokes now). The best pieces include long-sleeved blouses and mesh skirts. However, for those less daring, you can always pair up the transparent clothing with a “barely there“ undershirt or cute underwear masked as a clothing item.
What can we draw from this?
Well, 2019 is definitely going to be a ride. As far as street style goes, not only the urban youth is still strong but their Instagram game is taking the world by storm. Big applause to Instagram Growth Services. At this fall’s fashion month, on all locations – Paris, London, New York, Milan – showed that the modern youth culture is here to set trends, not follow them. Free of stereotypes, of rules to follow, limits to stifle them. So, break out those miniskirts, try a daring new neon colour, and brave an oversized coat. Become the statement of the new year and defiance it brings.
