Get Glowing Skin With An At Home Face Workout

Because who doesn’t want glowy skin all the time?

If you enjoy facials, you’re used to the post-facial glow. When your skin looks brighter, tighter and more youthful than it did no more than an hour before.

But don’t think that to get glowing skin you have to shell out money for a professional facial every time you want that glow. You can get that same post-facial glow from the comfort of your home by following a few simple steps.

This article will be sharing a quick and easy facial workout routine for you to follow as part of your daily routine for glowy and toned skin.

The best thing is, all you need are your hands and some facial oil!

What are facial workouts?

Facial workouts are intense facials where you use specific movements to de-puff, tighten and sculpt your face.

The name ‘facial workout’ came about because the process is similar to your usual gym session. You start by warming up your muscles, then follow up with some cardio and sculpting. At the end of the routine, you then do some cooling down exercises.

Facial workouts are quick yet effective, anyone can easily incorporate them into their morning routine – no matter how much of a rush you may be in.

What are the benefits of an at-home face workout?

Did you know that there are over 40 muscles in your face? We spend so much time talking about the muscles in the rest of our bodies that we forget these facial muscles.

At-home face workouts are designed to work every one of the 40 muscles in your face to make your skin look better than ever.

Some of the benefits of regular facial workouts include:

  • Increases blood circulation
  • Strengthens facial muscles
  • Firms and tightens the skin so that you look younger, for longer
  • Promotes naturally glowing skin
  • De-puffs your skin
  • Releases any knots or tension within the skin

When to do an at-home face workout?

You’ll see the best results if you do an at-home face workout every day – whether that’s part of your morning or evening skincare routine.

We like to do it in the morning when our skin looks the puffiest and needs waking up.

You should start doing facial workouts as soon as you can, no matter how old you are. The more work you can put into your skin from a younger age, the more results that you’ll see later on in life.

What products do you need for a facial workout?

All you need for an at-home facial workout is your hands and some facial oil – it’s easy for anyone to do.

You need some kind of oil to help your hands glide over your skin while doing the exercises without tugging your skin. You can use any facial oil that you have, or even your cleansing oil if that’s all you can get your hands on.

Some people like to use tools for their facial workouts, things like Gua Sha or facial rollers, which will also work great if you are able to purchase one.

How to do a facial workout for Glowing Skin

There are 4 steps that make up a full facial workout routine for glowing skin that will take under 5 minutes to do:

  1. Warm-up
  2. Cardio
  3. Sculpt
  4. Cooldown

Warm-up

The warm-up is one of the most important steps as it’s going to wake up your facial muscles and prepare them ready for the more intense parts of the workout.

After you’ve applied a few drops of your favourite facial oil, use the palm of your hand to make long swiping motions along your face. Make sure you’re applying a good amount of pressure to activate your facial muscles.

You can then clench your palms and make circular motions using your knuckles across your face, focussing on your forehead, jawline and cheekbones.

Cardio

It’s time to speed things up with the cardio portion of this workout. This step is going to revolve around quick movements that will increase circulation and get your facial muscles working.

Like you did in the warm-up, use your flat hands to make swiping motions upwards on your face for about 30 seconds – this time you want to do these movements a lot quicker.

Follow up with an exercise called ‘deep piano fingers’ where you tap the skin using your fingers, like how you would play the piano, but using a lot more pressure. Again you should continue these movements for about 30 seconds.

Sculpt

Sculpting is the step to focus on areas you feel need tightening and firming – this could be your jawline, cheekbones, forehead etc.

In this step you want to apply a good amount of pressure in slow, long movements, like a deep facial massage.

Two of the most common places where people want to sculpt are their cheekbones and jawline, so here are some sculpting exercises that you can use in these areas:

Cheekbones

Take your first and second finger and place them under the apple of your cheek. Apply pressure and move your fingers out towards where your ear is following the hollow of your cheekbone and repeat for 30 seconds.

Jawline

Put your second and first finger in a hook shape at your jawline so that one finger is above and one is below your jawline.

With your fingers facing away from your ear start to pull your fingers back, following the shape of your jawline until you reach the joint, and repeat for 30 seconds.

Cooldown

The final step to get glowing skin using an at-home facial workout is cooling down. The best way to do this is by doing movements that promote drainage in your face.

Use slow and steady movements to drain any excess fluid build-up in your face, you can do this by using the side of your hand or using a tool like Gua Sha or facial roller.
